I wanted to give everyone a heads up on the upcoming Father’s Walk, in which fathers across the county take time to walk their children to school the morning of Thursday September 17th. This annual walk is sponsored by The Cuyahoga County Fatherhood Initiative, Passages, I Am A Dream and the Healthy Fathering Collaborative. A list of the schools currently participating (as of September 10th) can be found HERE. Many schools have additional activities for fathers that day. Feel free to contact you child’s school if you do not see it listed.
On this date, fathers (ana father-figures) will be encouraged to take the following pledge:
- I am responsible for the education of my child.
- I will encourage all children to do their best every day at school.
- I will speak to my child about the value of learning and the importance of reaching your potential.
- I will help with school work and review assignments for completion.
- I will praise my child when he/she does well in school.
- I will speak with my child’s teachers and support them in educating my child.
- I will teach my child the value of education and the value of family.
- I will work with my child’s mother or guardian to achieve the best academic and social outcomes for my child even if I do not live with my child.
A few of my friends participated last year with their children, and share the same feelings of appreciation for something as simple as a walk to school, to take place in unison. I hope you spread the word, and enjoy the walk! 🙂
Here is a quick opportunity to welcome a bus tour of visitors to the city of Cleveland! By way of Destination Cleveland, pop-up parties are set up to show travelers that we Clevelanders are very happy they decided to stop by. I have participated in the past; I and a few others welcomed a bus load of students from Canada outside of the Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame. They actually said that in all of their stops to various cities…NOT ONE welcomed them off the bus they way we did! That says a lot about Cleveland, right?!
If you are free on Wednesday September 9th at 4:30PM, please email Eric Embacher (Visitor Experience Program Manager | Destination Cleveland) at EEmbacher@destinationcleveland.org The location for this welcome party is the Radisson Hotel in downtown Cleveland (651 Huron Road, Cleveland, OH 44115), and should take no more than one hour. Hope you can make it…and let Eric know I sent you! 🙂
The Domestic Violence & Child Advocacy Center is hosting its 3rd annual Walk A Mile In Her Shoes event. On Thursday September 24th, men in the greater Cleveland area will come together and participate in a one mile walk around the Warehouse District downtown…while wearing women’s heels! Women and children are also encouraged to register and participate. There are several registration options available, which can all be found HERE. The money raised will help raise critical funds for Domestic Violence & Child Advocacy Center’s programs reaching over 40,000 individual’s in Cuyahoga County each year. After the walk, you are invited back to Dive Bar (1214 West 6th Street, Cleveland OH)
I am asking for all of my friends and family (ESPECIALLY THE MALES) to come out and support an issue that is too visible in our communities but can be difficult to address. I decided to join the volunteer committee for DVCAC and help spread the word, and hopefully attract different audiences to the walk. If you need some help finding heels in your size please let me know!
“It’s not easy to walk a mile in heels, nor is it easy yo walk away from a relationship that involves domestic violence. Please come out and empower others by showing your support in their journey.”
Here’s a way to have some last-minute fun before the Cleveland Weather really sets in the only way it knows how SMH! Consider volunteering for the upcoming Brew-B-Q presented by Great Lakes Brewing Company. Proceeds will benefit The Hunger Network of Greater Cleveland, a nonprofit I have raised money for in the past through their Walk for Hunger. Specifically, 96 cents of every dollar raised for the Hunger Network goes directly to its hunger centers and hot meals that are focused on feeding hungry families in Cuyahoga County
Volunteer jobs will include collecting tickets/money at the gate, selling non-alcoholic beverages and more!
Volunteers do not need to purchase event tickets.
***Please email the following information to firstname.lastname@example.org to volunteer at the Brew-B-Q, presented by Great Lakes Brewing Company. If you will be volunteering with a buddy, please include their contact information, as well [separately from your own].
